In efforts to enhance Durham Public Schools’ (DPS) local assessment system, their Teaching, Learning and Leadership team collaborated with Research and Accountability to evaluate the extent to which student performance on elementary, middle, and high school benchmark assessments are predictive of performance on state standardized assessments (End of Grade/EOG and End of Course/EOC Assessments). Hanover Research (Hanover) conducted an analysis to better understand the alignment between the outcomes compared to EOG/EOC assessments for Reading, Mathematics, and Science and the mid-year benchmark provided by TE21’s CASE Benchmark Assessments (CASE 21). The findings revealed that strong and positive correlations exist between the benchmark assessments and the EOC exams for all three subjects, and all correlations are statistically significant at the 99 percent confidence level.
